Whether you’re 18 or 108, everyone should have a will in place. People use wills to choose who gets their property, name guardians for minor children, provide a plan for pets, and more.

Through a will, many people also choose to leave a part of their estate to Augustana University and make an impact on the causes they love, for years to come.

Former NWS Forecaster Encourages More Women to go Into STEM-Related Fields

Julia Berg ’88 dedicated over 34 years to the National Weather Service, a career she attributes in part to her education at Augustana. Despite her introverted nature, Berg’s passion for weather, inspired by her upbringing on a farm, led her to break barriers in meteorology. Her journey from a small-town girl with “impossible dreams” to a respected forecaster in South Dakota and Nebraska highlights her resilience and determination.

In her retirement, Berg reflects on the role Augustana played in her life and career. Grateful for the financial support she received as a student, she has decided to leave a lasting legacy by establishing the Julia C. Berg Endowed Sciences Scholarship through a gift in her will. This gift is her way of paying it forward, ensuring that future generations of students—especially those who, like her, may need a little extra help—can pursue their dreams in the sciences. Through her generosity, Berg hopes to inspire others to achieve what once seemed impossible, just as she did.
